Baking Soda Volcano: A Simple Science Experiment

🔍 What is this experiment?

This is a simple and safe science experiment where a “volcano” fizzes and erupts using baking soda and vinegar.

🧪 What you need

  • 🥄 Baking soda
  • 🧴 Vinegar
  • 🎨 Food coloring (red/orange looks like lava)
  • 🏔️ A small cup or bottle
  • 🧻 Tray or plate (to catch the mess)

👣 Steps to do the experiment

1️⃣ Put 2–3 spoons of baking soda into the cup
2️⃣ Add a few drops of food coloring
3️⃣ Slowly pour in vinegar
4️⃣ Step back and watch the eruption! 😲

⚗️ What is happening? (The Science)

  • Baking soda is a base
  • Vinegar is an acid
  • When they mix, they react and make a gas called carbon dioxide (CO₂)

🧠 The gas makes bubbles and foam, pushing everything out like a volcano!

🌋 Why does it look like a volcano?

  • Gas builds up quickly
  • Foam rises and spills over
  • This is similar to how real volcanoes push lava out (but real ones use hot gases!)

⭐ Fun learning facts

  • The fizzing sound is gas escaping
  • More baking soda = bigger bubbles
  • Cold vinegar makes a slower eruption

🧠 Easy to remember

Acid + Base = Gas → Fizzy eruption!

⚠️ Safety tips

  • Do it on a tray or outside
  • Don’t taste anything
  • Wash hands after
