π What is a Solar Eclipse?
A solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves between the Sun and the Earth.
π The Moon blocks the Sunβs light, so the Sun looks partly or fully covered.
π§ How does it happen?
Normally:
π Sun β π Earth (Sunlight reaches Earth)
During a solar eclipse:
π Sun β π Moon β π Earth
(The Moon blocks the sunlight)
This can only happen during a New Moon.
π Types of Solar Eclipse (simple)
1οΈβ£ Partial Solar Eclipse
- The Moon covers only part of the Sun
- The Sun looks like it has a bite taken out
2οΈβ£ Total Solar Eclipse
- The Moon completely covers the Sun
- Day turns dark like night for a short time
- You can see the Sunβs glowing outer edge (corona)
3οΈβ£ Annular Solar Eclipse
- The Moon is a bit farther from Earth
- It doesnβt fully cover the Sun
- The Sun looks like a bright ring π
β±οΈ How long does a solar eclipse last?
- A total eclipse lasts only a few minutes
- The whole event may last 2β3 hours
π Is it safe to look at a solar eclipse?
π« Never look directly at the Sun
It can hurt your eyes badly.
β Safe ways:
- Special eclipse glasses
- Watching the Sunβs shadow on the ground
- Using a pinhole projector
π Fun facts for kids
- The Sun is 400 times bigger than the Moon
- But it also looks 400 times farther away
- Thatβs why the Moon can perfectly cover the Sun
- Solar eclipses do not happen every month
π§ Easy way to remember
Sun + Moon + Earth in a line = Solar Eclipse
